    Witches and Cats

    Cats and witches for Halloween.

    • Witches and Kittens.
    • Kittens and Witches,
    • However you say it,
    • They go together like stitches

The midnight time when powerful witches, demons and ghosts appear to wreak havoc, misfortune and bad luck upon the living for one hour.

Every Halloween we see these poor little kitties hanging on…and yet.

    • Where are the outreach “Save the broomstick kitties” causes?
    • Where are the howling soprano voices with photos of scared little broomstick kitty faces?
    • Where is the love?

Imagine a Witches with Kittens benefit on behalf of poor bewitched kitties forced to ride on broomsticks in the Hour of Witches.

What could be spookier than an invitation to witches on the actual Night of Witches?

    What possibly could go wrong?

    • Well, for one thing the benefit would have to go to an actual 503c cause because witches on broomsticks flying around terrifying cats is imaginary.

  • Artist of the Month: October

What could be more fitting than to have paintings of witches and kittens on display for witching month?

We put up over 40 paintings for show at the 2nd Street Art Gallery last Friday.

I’ve been painting furiously for this event since last March and have fallen so in love with my witches and cats that now I don’t want to sell them. What sort of business enterpreneurship is this? Don’t ask me, I’m just the artist. LOL

The last time I painted anything on canvas was 1983, so to have churned out 48 paintings in 6 months, plus hundreds of wooden cookie Halloween ornaments was nearly an exausting marathon.

My photos don’t do these images any good as my camera is not professional.

Am in the process of connecting with a pro to get some good shots for selling prints and making puzzzles later.

  • Rebellious Rascals

Taking the broom on a midnight ride

This started out with a witch on the broom but when the idea struck for a joy ride I couldn’t resist.

This one will be available as a puzzle as soon as I get my new photo equipment.

  • Trickster and Kitten take a Ride With the Witch

It occurred to me in mid process to add a kitten to the mix.

I think it worked out well.

  • Diabolical Dancing

A diabolic dance in the moonlight with cats. Bringing in the spirit of the witching season with a midnight dance lit by a full moon.

I’ve added a few things since publishing this photo, and may update this shot at a later date.

Just not done with it yet.

  • Mutiny on a Broomstick

Witch on broom with playful black cats.
    Carried away with a broom

The intention was to add spooky trees and branches with owls and haunting eyes to surround the witch as she chased Trickster, her playful, broom-jacking feline familiar.

However, one by one, Trickster’s 3 rowdy kittens popped into view to add some fun and chaotic playfulness to the scene.

  • Witch Plays Magic Eye with Trickster

Witch relaxing under a witches moon while performing magic to mesmerize Trickster.

The fun thing I discovered about this painting is it can be effectively displayed in any direction.

  • Moon Phases

Lunar phases of the moon are vital so witches may perform rituals, incantations and magical recipes to witches. Why not add a few kittens to the recipe.

I’ll be making more of this theme for sure.

  • Black cats and Witches Project

There is just something special about the relationship between a cat and its chosen person that can never be explained.

    The Beauty and the Beast

We all know the story of Beauty and the beast. Sure, she proves loves him and he turns into a real boy and all that, but try to reverse roles on that dynamic.

When the beauty is the beast what does that make the witch?

    A grotesque?

Consider the scenario where the Beauty is a feline beast. Cats have the earned reputation of aloofness, uncaring, moody…

Uncaring, aloof beastly beauty vs uncaring, aloof witch grotesque in appearance and beastly in temperment

Who will bet odds on that staring contest?

The mysterious relationship between a cat and its chosen person, add

    • Witchery,
    • A dash of superstition,
    • A dollop of cat memories,
    • Imaginary feline relationships

Into the meow mix and magic happens.

    October Artist of the Month

Such a fuss I am making over this nomination but I can’t help being somewhat excited with the usual healthy dose of self deprecating anxiety.

The exploration of October, fall season and Halloween traditions yields tons of associations for painting the wooden cookie ornaments for festivities.:

    • Fall harvest Season
    • Weather Changes
    • Holiday Parties

The best is Karma has blessed us with 24 witches and feline familiars, with more to come. For some mysterious reason beastly witches and beautiful cats as Beauty and the Beast came forth in preparation for October 2024 Artist of the Month showing at the 2nd Avenue Crescent City Art Center.

  • Wicked Witch of the West

Trickster Takes A Visication to the Wicked Witch of the West’s shadow.

Inspired by a photo of the original movie Wizard of Oz bad witch. This unique artistic rendition is on a stretched 10″x10″x10″ triangle canvas with acrylic paint medium.

The Wicked Witch of the West. She was the worst. I never knew her name other than Wicked Witch of the West but now know her as Elphaba The Wicked Witch of the West,  evil ruler of the Winkie Country, the western region in the Land of Oz.

As a fan of the origial Wizard of Oz, this particular witch haunted my childish dreams for decades.

Such an evil witch, but Trickster the cat knows better. Here Trickster’s shadow takes a visication with the shadow of the witch.

Turns out this wicked witch goes by many names.

    •  Bastinda
    •  Elphaba
    •  Old Snarl-Spats
    •  Lynessa
    •  Mordra
    •  Miss West
    •  Morella
    •  Theodora Elphaba

What ever name she goes by, she her skin is green because her Mother drank “Green Miracle Elixir” while pregnant. Interestingly enough, a search on the Internet for “Green Miracle Elixir” yields millions of results.
