Lunar phases of the moon are vital so witches may perform rituals, incantations and magical recipes to witches. Why not add a few kittens to the recipe.
I’ll be making more of this theme for sure.

The Beauty and the Beast
We all know the story of Beauty and the beast. Sure, she proves loves him and he turns into a real boy and all that, but try to reverse roles on that dynamic.
When the beauty is the beast what does that make the witch?
A grotesque?
Consider the scenario where the Beauty is a feline beast. Cats have the earned reputation of aloofness, uncaring, moody…
Uncaring, aloof beastly beauty vs uncaring, aloof witch grotesque in appearance and beastly in temperment
Who will bet odds on that staring contest?
The mysterious relationship between a cat and its chosen person, add
- Witchery,
- A dash of superstition,
- A dollop of cat memories,
- Imaginary feline relationships
Into the meow mix and magic happens.
October Artist of the Month
Such a fuss I am making over this nomination but I can’t help being somewhat excited with the usual healthy dose of self deprecating anxiety.

Trickster Takes A Visication to the Wicked Witch of the West’s shadow.
Inspired by a photo of the original movie Wizard of Oz bad witch. This unique artistic rendition is on a stretched 10″x10″x10″ triangle canvas with acrylic paint medium.
The Wicked Witch of the West. She was the worst. I never knew her name other than Wicked Witch of the West but now know her as Elphaba The Wicked Witch of the West, evil ruler of the Winkie Country, the western region in the Land of Oz.
As a fan of the origial Wizard of Oz, this particular witch haunted my childish dreams for decades.
Such an evil witch, but Trickster the cat knows better. Here Trickster’s shadow takes a visication with the shadow of the witch.
Turns out this wicked witch goes by many names.

What ever name she goes by, she her skin is green because her Mother drank “Green Miracle Elixir” while pregnant. Interestingly enough, a search on the Internet for “Green Miracle Elixir” yields millions of results.

Flamingo A friend suggested I start a catalog designs so I’ve been busy, busy, busy creating a variety of designs to display on Karma Carriers web site.
Currently I am working on designs for Halloween and other fall holidays such as Day of the Dead skulls and skeletons, witches and black cats galore to prepare for the October showing.
In other words, the images in this catalog are examples of current work of various types and I will have much more for future designs, but for now, it’s All Hallowed Eve all the time till November.

The midnight time when powerful witches, demons and ghosts appear to wreak havoc, misfortune and bad luck upon the living for one hour.
Why Witches and Kittens?
The combination of contrast grotesque vs beautiful seems to challenge fate. How better to bring out the ultimate Beauty and Beast a’la’female with gnarly old women in tall pointy hats vs beautiful pets.
I am painting these witching hour and Halloween art for display and sale next October at The Crescent City Arts when I get to be Featured artist of the month. It’s my first time, so I gotta make a good showing.
Paintings on canvas art works sizes range from 2″ x 2″ to 16″ x 24.” I just might churn out a few round ones as well.
So far most images are 8″ x 10″ but I have two 16″ x 24″ in the hopper. In fact I just completed two tiny 2″x2″ canvases.
I plan on making a good variety of large and small witch and kitty’s for display and sale this October 2023.

These are the words a fellow Toastmaster club member used to describe Karma Carrier Wood Cookie ornaments. The description fits.
I’m feeling a bit addicted to painting tiny images on each slice. It’s a challenge to come up with new symbols and designs to keep each ornament freshly unique. Now, I have no idea exactly what freshly unique means other than a personal satisfaction the new ornament is somehow better or more improved than the last or, freshly unique.
I am busy painting a variety of topics to create a catalogue to display designs either available at the store or shown as an example of my work.
Feel free to request or submit a design of your own. We’ll talk. I don’t charge more for special orders. An ornament is an ornament is an ornament.

Wooden Slices Sea Turtle Ornaments
These little wood slice turtles are between 2 and 3 inches.
Each ornament is hand-painted with an image on both sides.
Images include a variety of subjects, animal, vegetable and mineral.

Turtle Class Was a Success
A total of 9 people attended the class last Thursday and we had a lot of fun.
We painted a total of 20 premade baby turtles and molded at least 20 more for baking at home.
Most of the attendees are local artists themselves. I am looking forward to seeing their finished turtles and learning what they do with the little beauties.
One thing is for certain I am so glad I put out the effort to make so many premade turtles to choose from. It was my first class so I was guessing what sort of turtle would be most popular so I molded, baked and sanded 24 baby Leatherback and 24 generic ’round’ shaped turtles for painting. I glued magnets on over haff of them for refrigerator magnet displays.
To my surprise, and something I find interesting, the artists only chose the little round turtles to paint, but most artists molded at least one Leatherback to take home for later.
My guess is the Leatherback turtles aren’t as colorful…but I think they are cute. 🙂

Project Baby Sea Turtles
These are a few of the sea turtle babies I dropped off at the Art Center last Thursday.
These little ones range in size from about 2 7/8″ to 3 1/2″. About half are refrigerator magnets.
I have a terrible camera and I nearly always forget to take photos of these little critters before applying the glossy finish which makes the photos look even worse, and of course these photos are double the actual size so all flaws are glaringly out there…sigh.
What did Salvidore Dali say? “Don’t try for perfection, you’ll never achieve it?” or something like that. I believe in living the intention and almost quoting my favorite sages correctly.
The next phase of this turtle journey is to try to perfect some really good molds and try to ignore what I just wrote in that last paragraph above.
When I started this project the smallest turtle I thought I could make was about 5″ long but after much practice achieved a tiny baby Leatherback at just 2 7/8″. I think I can go smaller…

National Cat Day
The most famous cat in the history of science is Schrödinger’s cat.
In 1935 the physicist Erwin Schrödinger used the idea of a cat in a box as a thought experiment to explain the theory of quantum mechanics. Without actually viewing the cat there is no way to tell whether the cat is live or dead.
While creating the Sweetie Pie Kitty Karma Carrier ornaments I developed a Schrödinger’s cat ornament.
